Pick-up locations

Auto Europe Israel collaborates in Romania with ENTERPRISE, THRIFTY, BUDGET, and HERTZ, to offer Israeli customers a selection of vehicles and flexible terms. The companies operate counters at Bucharest International Airport (OTP) and urban branches in Bucharest and other major destinations throughout Romania. Through Auto Europe Israel, you can compare suppliers, choose suitable car categories, and enjoy reliable service and convenient access to pickup and return points across the country.

Car rental companies in Romania

Auto Europe Israel collaborates with a wide network of car rental companies throughout Romania, giving you full flexibility in choosing pickup and return points. You can pick up a car from major airports such as Bucharest – Henri Coanda Airport (OTP), Cluj-Napoca (CLJ), Timisoara, Iasi, Sibiu, and Constanta, as well as from urban branches near central train stations like the Gara de Nord area in Bucharest. In addition, you will find active stations in Brasov, Oradea, Craiova, and tourist hubs across Transylvania, the Carpathians, the Danube Delta, and the Black Sea coast. Booking through Auto Europe Israel allows you to choose from various categories – from compact and family cars to SUVs and 4x4s for mountainous travel up to 7–9-seater minivans – as well as to add complementary equipment such as safety seats, navigation systems, and winter tires in season. You can also consider one-way rentals between different cities, subject to supplier policy.

Operating hours vary between companies and branches, and sometimes between seasons. In small towns, operating hours may be limited or have a lunch break, and on Sundays, some branches operate on a limited schedule. Therefore, it is important to confirm in advance that the station hours match your landing or arrival time, to receive the car at a convenient place and time. In cases of late arrival, it may be possible to arrange pickup outside of operating hours for an additional fee or schedule pickup for the next morning. After booking, you will receive an exact address, arrival instructions, and document requirements, including a valid driver's license and sometimes an international license, as well as a physical credit card in the main driver's name for security. Auto Europe Israel's team is at your disposal for any questions until you receive the keys and during your trip.

FAQ – Car rental in Romania

What is the minimum age to rent a car in Romania, and is there an additional charge for young drivers?
In Romania, when renting through Auto Europe Israel with Hertz, Budget, Thrifty, or Enterprise, the minimum age is usually 21 with at least one year of driving experience. Drivers aged 21-24 (and sometimes up to 25) will typically incur a daily young driver surcharge, and higher minimum age or 2 years of experience may be required for large or luxury vehicle groups. The surcharge varies by supplier and category and usually ranges around 5-15 euros per day, sometimes with a rental cap.
Is an Israeli driver's license sufficient, or is an international license required?
It is strongly recommended to present an international driver's permit (IDP) alongside the Israeli license when renting in Romania through Auto Europe Israel. Some suppliers require an IDP if the license is not in English or Latin alphabet and may refuse to release the car without it. Upon pickup, a valid passport, a valid driver's license (and IDP if necessary), and a physical credit card in the main driver's name must be presented for security.
What does the basic insurance package include when renting a car in Romania through Auto Europe Israel, and what additional insurances are recommended?
In Romania, basic coverage usually includes CDW (Collision Damage Waiver) and TP (Theft Protection) with an excess, as well as third-party liability as required by local law (RCA). It is recommended to consider extensions such as excess reduction (Super CDW/Excess Reduction), coverage for windshields, tires, and mirrors, and extended roadside assistance. Damage to parts not covered or breach of rental terms may not be covered; the amount of the deposit and excess varies by supplier and vehicle category.
Can an additional driver be added, and what is the cost involved?
Yes. When renting through Auto Europe Israel with Hertz, Budget, Thrifty, or Enterprise in Romania, additional drivers can be added provided they meet age and experience requirements and present a valid license, and sometimes IDP. There is usually a daily surcharge for an additional driver, generally around 5-10 euros per day per driver, sometimes with a rental cap. If the additional driver is young, a young driver surcharge may also apply. All drivers must be present at pickup to sign the agreement.
What happens in case of an accident or car breakdown?
In an emergency in Romania, dial 112. Then immediately contact the supplier's support center booked through Auto Europe Israel (Hertz/Budget/Thrifty/Enterprise) for assistance and event initiation. For accidents with casualties, significant damage, theft, or vandalism, a police report is required. For minor damage between two vehicles without injuries, it is customary to fill out a form called Constatare amiabilă or go to the police station within 24 hours according to supplier instructions. Do not repair the vehicle independently; document with photos and keep receipts. A replacement vehicle is provided based on availability and rental terms.

Tips for car rental in Romania

Heading to rent a car abroad? We've gathered four essential tips to help you choose the right conditions, prevent unnecessary charges, and go through the process smoothly — from booking to returning the vehicle at the end of the trip, safely and without surprises.

Ensure an International Credit Card in the Main Driver's Name

The rental company will require a physical card with a sufficient limit for the deposit. Debit/prepaid cards may sometimes not be accepted. Check the limit in advance and consider a backup card to avoid delays.

Know the Coverage and Excess

Check what coverages are included (CDW/TP/third party) and the excess amount. Consider extensions for windshield, tire, and undercarriage damage, and understand what is covered by the supplier and what by the broker.

Plan Fuel Policy in Advance

Prefer "Full to Full," refuel close to return, and keep the receipt. Photograph the fuel gauge to avoid refueling charges and service fees.

Document Vehicle Condition at Pickup and Return

Perform a scan and take photos from all angles, mark scratches on the form, check mileage and fuel level. Keep documents and photos until after the final charge.
